The future is a dirty rag bearing the traces of past achievements.
If I once had expectations and plans for realizing myself as an artist, 2022 shattered them all to the very foundations. Now I can barely make out fragments of my former ambitions. They mean nothing. And I see nothing ahead. Another attempt to pull myself together resulted in the creation of these works.
They are sewn together from scraps of canvas that had been used in another project: the installation was documented, but the materials remained. My current state is precisely that of these poorly stitched pieces of dirty cloth, bearing traces of past dreams, held together with great effort and painstaking care so as not to decay into mold and linden counterfeit honey (“распасться на плесень и на липовый мед”).*
* A quotation from the lyrics of Grazhdanskaya Oborona’s song “Everything is going according to plan”.
Linden and counterfeit are possible translations for the Russian word “липовый.”
